...which is just a darker shade of beige.
This year's It Colour is "Mocha Mousse." Already we see it appearing everywhere.
A few years ago white was de rigeur in all modern interiors. Which looked beautiful (if, in my view, dull) until it was covered with muddy pawmarks or that smidgen of Flake that drifted down onto the seat of your car as you wolfed it down in a frenzy, and thence to your jeans, alighting in triumph on your white linen sofa cushion where it became ensconced for eternity, a reminder of your gluttonous indiscretion.
If, suddenly, we now can't move for brown orthodoxy: cushions, sofas, rugs, walls, lamps in brown, I shall remind people of the dreary colours of the sixties and seventies. Maybe the brown is a reflection of the worrying state of the world: out with decadent white; in with the comfort of a big mug of coffee or hot chocolate. At least it's easier to disguise the stains.
And, because I have to say this, so ironic that those of us with skin that's this year's colour find ourselves even more sidelined and blamed for everything that's DEI bad, don't you think?
